To prepare and publish Zimbabwe national standards specifications, codes of practice, test methods, glossary of terms and classifications.
To promote an understanding of standards requirements by offering standards-based training programmes.
To encourage the widespread use of standards by operating:
Product Mark certification schemes where goods produced under proper control may be licensed; and
Management system certification schemes for organizations complying with SAZS ISO 9001, SAZS ISO 14001 and SAZS OHSAS 18001 on quality management system (QMS), environmental management system (EMS) and Occupational Health & Safety Management system, respectively.
To provide technical services for the testing of raw materials and manufactured goods, and calibration of equipment.
To provide information services on national, foreign national, regional and international standards and technical regulations.
To provide a World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO TBT) enquiry point for standards and conformity assessment information.
Funding
Whilst the SAZ derives its income from certification/registration activities, laboratory testing fees, training and sale of publications, it is subsidised by funds from the Standards Development Levy Fund (SDLF). The levy is collected by government from specified employers through the Ministry of Industry and International Trade.
